Mental Health in LGBTQ Utah Youth: Continuing the Conversation
Utah LGBTQ Youth Mental Health Series with Lisa Hansen, Ph.D., LMFT, Jeff Case, Ph.D., and facilitated by Ann Pack.
Lisa Tensmeyer Hansen, Ph.D., LMFT, is the clinical director and founder of Flourish Therapy, Inc., a nonprofit behavioral health clinic in Orem, Utah serving the needs of LGBTQ+ individuals, couples, and families. Lisa’s Ph.D. from BYU focused on improving the mental health of LGBTQ+ people in conservative family and community. Lisa Hansen’s interest in the well-being of LGBTQ+ and SSA people is informed by her LDS faith.
Since leaving the Army, Jeff Case has been employed as a full-time therapist within the Veteran’s Healthcare Administration in Salt Lake City, UT. Additionally, he is an adjunct faculty member at BYU and has served on the UT Governor’s Suicide Reduction Task Force working to decrease suicide among the LGBTQ population.
Ann married her wife Brigit 20 years ago in the Bountiful temple and together they have a 15 year old daughter. After 15 years of marriage as husband and wife, Ann could no longer keep the secret that she was transgender. Instead of divorcing, Ann and Brigit have chosen to stay together even though at times this choice has been extremely difficult for both of them. Ann has a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology and lives with her family in Syracuse, Utah. Ann and Brigit regularly attend their ward meetings. They are both heavily involved with North Star and Affirmation and are passionate about bringing more understanding and awareness of LGBTQ members of the church.
